The Ambulance Driver is set in today’s world of emergency medicine, for Paramedic Megan Alroy it is a world of disease, death and deceit. The Ambulance Driver is for the mature reader who appreciates the humor in the darker side of life. If you practice pre-hospital emergency medical care, you need an effective coping mechanism or you need a different job. Megan’s coping mechanism is a cutting sense of humor and, at times, she comes off as a hard-ass. But, deep inside, she is warm and caring and wants someone to love and trust. She is young and beautiful and her philosophy is all about working hard and playing harder. Her attitude towards sex is a lot like pizza; sometimes fantastic, sometimes okay, but its always pizza. In her story she finds that even pizza can turn ugly. A slice may look, feel, smell and taste so good going down, but some pizza is just not worth eating.

Las Vegas is the natural setting for her story. New York maybe the city that doesn’t sleep, but Vegas is the city that can’t sleep.

The Ambulance Driver is a story of the politics of relationships and the evils of manipulation. So if you choose, buy the book, find the nearest scrub sink, sterilize your hands, don snapping tight surgical gloves, select your favorite scalpel (a number eleven is mine), incise the story’s pale, pasty, and feculent flesh, use your fingers to separate the thick greasy layers of fat, blunt dissect through its atrophied muscles, and use a bovie to burn through the omentum. Then reach deep inside its warm, wet belly and use your sense of touch, sight and smell; examine, and what do you find? Blood, guts and human waste—same as everything else.

As someone else pointed out, this feels like a discarded nbc medical drama. The leads are all super attractive and the best ever at everything, FD and PD are portrayed as hilariously incompetent, and the main antagonist is just... Terrible. Dialog felt disjointed and clumsy, awkwardly advancing the plot one painful conversation at a time. I'm also pretty sure the author wanted to bang his lead character.

The actual medical calls were decent, if somewhat inaccurate, but they disappear halfway through the book in favor of some weird sex slave plot thing. Then the book just ends. Abruptly. With the literal phase "The end".

I'm a bit upset I spent money on the book. The first half was bearable, the second half destroyed any enjoyment I could find.

THE AMBULANCE DRIVER edition by Damian R Michaels Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I read this book in two afternoons and enjoyed it. Being from a EMS/firefighter household I was really interested in all the medical calls and how the ER worked. The humor is dry and dark and I had several good laughs. The story moved quickly and was very interesting. There was a section that I got a little lost in the story but I picked it back up and carried on. This was a good read.
It's ok as far as book goes
I am not in the medical profession. But, over the years, I have been around many medical and ER situations. And, what I really loved about this book is that it is REAL!!! It's gritty - it's sordid - it's explicit - I can go on and on with adjectives about Megan Alroy's incredible experiences. Everything here could go right into a screenplay for a very dramatic movie or a hit TV show. But, unlike all the TV hospital ER shows where I'm often saying to myself, "give me a break - that doesn't really happen," the events in The Ambulance Driver DO happen!! They happen to the patients, the doctors, all the hospital staff, and here critically the ambulance personnel who get sick and injured people to the hospitals.

D.R. Michaels is a great writer! He brings us along on the journey (sometimes DRAGGING us through the slimy stuff) on a two-lane road. The lower lane is serious, tense, and offensive to all of our senses. However, I can't help feeling that Michaels wants us to ride in the upper lane as well. There, the reader can "wink" and laugh at some of what's going on! The book weaves comedic twists into almost every dramatic situation. After reading a couple of chapters, the reader has laughed AND cried at the same time - and needs to take a rest from all the excitement.

The book truly deserves all five stars. I think that the dedicated men and women who actually work in the E.R. medical field will want to give it a "sixth star" for the realism it contains!!
Good story but needs second book to finish the story. Needs some proof reading for errors. But enjoyed it. But finish story please
It's an okay read. It's very loosely based off of what happens in EMS, so for those of you without an EMT or medic license, take the practices with a grain of salt. Lots of curse words and graphic descriptions, but that's kind of the lifestyle, I suppose.
O.M.G. what a twist I wasn't expecting. The spelling and grammar are pretty bad at parts, but not to the point of distraction from the story. It starts off slow and then I found myself unable to put the book down. Ridiculous. I loved it.
Liked the story and the characters, but for heaven's sake get a proofreader and an editor, or review your grammar and spelling and sentence structure. And I don't mean in the characters' dialogue! The frequent errors were really distracting.
